Canucks vs. Predators

Scoring Summary:
(Period - Team - Goal Scorer - Time of Goal)
2nd Period - Predators - Erat - 14:13
2nd Period - Canucks - D. Sedin - 18:15 (PP)
2nd Period - Predators - Spaling - 18:22
2nd Period - Predators - Fisher - 19:11

The Predators did not turn into prey as hoped when the Canucks rolled into town for their last game of the 3 game road trip when Vancouver fell 3-1 in regular time. Five of the top six defence men are out with injuries, leaving Salo and Ehrhoff to run the blue line with Manitoba Moose call-ups. The rookies played well, they were consistent, and didn't try anything fancy or give up chances. The Canucks seemed to have some difficulty keeping the puck in the offensive zone, and had a hard time capitalizing on opportunities. The Canucks did, however lead the shots 36 - 26. The Vancouver Canucks will return home and play the Dallas Stars at Rogers Arena on Saturday.

Canucks Playoffs: Game Two

Oh geez.

Good Things:
-nice goals by Bernier and Samuelesson (scored on 2 of the first 4 shots)
-exciting 'track meet' play in the third period
-Luongo made 29 saves
-Kessler won 7 of 11 faceoffs

Bad Things:
-Alberts
-King's 35 second scoring spree

First off, I'm pretty upset with Alberts. I mean, I had never heard of him before now, and being known as the player who has the most playoff PIM of the NHL. In Game 1 he took a penalty that led to the King's first goal, and then was kicked out of the game after taking a five minute penalty in which the Kings scored again and tied the game. And if that wasn't enough, he comes back to Game Two and gets two consecutive penalties, and one more a bit later. That's THREE penalties. I hope I don't see him in Game Three because something isn't working for him, and he needs to figure it out, because just a week ago he scored against the Sharks!
Secondly, this game reinforced my worries about this series. Even though it has only been two games, you can see in the game play how close it is. I really hope Canucks and put more distance between themselves and the Kings, as they are getting more shots on goal.
As for Game Three, I am hoping the Canucks can pull through and take the lead. Though the Kings will have home-ice advantage, the Canucks have really improved their away play, if you will, over the season.

GOOD LUCK

Day Nine - Speeeed Skating!

Last night was a great night for Canadian speed-skaters. First of all, in the Ladies' Short Track 1500m Heat 3, Valerie Maltais qualified by a mere one thousandth of a second! A photo finish that was very exciting to watch. Maltais went on to the semi-finals, but missed qualifing by 2 seconds. Secondly, the Hamelin brothers, Francois Hamelin and Charles Hamelin both represented Canada in the Men's 1000m finals! They just missed the podium, placing 4th and 5th, but had terrific races.
Today at 4:40pm the long awaited USA vs. Canada men's hockey game will take place. It is going to be an incredible game, and I think the world is definitely going to be watching this one. On the topic of hockey, the women's hockey this year has been incredible, if I say so myself. I'm not just talking about the infamous 18-0 game, I'm talking about the quality of hockey these ladies are playing. I have actually enjoyed watching women's Olympic hockey more than men's Olympic hockey.
Also tonight I will be heading to The Scent Of Spring, put on by the National Dance Company of Korea, which should be amazing.
There is only a week left in the Olympics, which is sad because I am having such an incredible time with Students Live, and just the feel of the city right now. Yes, there are anti-Olympic organizations and people who are negative about the Games, but at this point most have accepted that the Games are here and all you can do is enjoy them.
